| dc.description.abstractOther | This study investigates Pre-Albian mafic magmatism in the Santos Basin Pre-Salt sequence, associated with Gondwana rifting and South Atlantic opening. The research integrates petrographic, stratigraphic, and geochemical data from two igneous sections penetrated by wells 3-BRSA-1290-SPS and 3-BRSA-883-RJS. Due to the absence of isotopic (Sr-Nd-Pb-Hf) constraints, all petrogenetic interpretations derive exclusively from major and trace elements—a limitation requiring that all mantle source inferences remain testable hypotheses. Results indicate that magmas from both wells are predominantly tholeiitic, except for one alkaline sample (4923) in well 3-BRSA-883-RJS. Petrogenetic modelling, incorporating sensitivity analysis of key parameters (Kd values, source modal proportions, assimilation rates), suggests melting within the spinel stability field at estimated depths of 58-68 km (southern well) and 44-51 km (central well), with uncertainty margins of ±5 km and ±4 km respectively. The compositional distinction between wells, only 120 km apart, indicates mantle heterogeneity at an intra-basin scale. The southern well (3-BRSA-1290-SPS) displays patterns consistent with enriched sources (E-MORB/OIB-type affinities), whereas the central well (3-BRSA- 883-RJS) exhibits signatures compatible with more depleted sources (N-MORB to E-MORB affinities). These interpretations require future isotopic validation for definitive source characterization. Differentiation processes operated predominantly through fractional crystallization in closed systems or systems with limited recharge (RFC). AFC modelling suggests crustal assimilation restricted to specific samples, with low assimilation rates (r = 0.2) - an inference that lacks independent isotopic confirmation. Sensitivity analysis confirms that varying assimilation rates between 0.1 and 0.3 produces compositional variations within 10-20% of observed values, but cannot unequivocally discriminate assimilation from source heterogeneity. The compositional diversity between wells primarily reflects melting of heterogeneous mantle domains at different depths within the spinel stability field. Academically, these results quantitatively support the role of mantle heterogeneities and lithospheric segmentation during Gondwana rifting. From an exploratory perspective, the petrogenetic characterization of the 'Parati' (Post-Rift, enriched sources) and 'Tupi' (Rift, depleted sources) members provides geochemical criteria for mapping petroleum systems in the Pre-Salt province | en |
