| pt_BR |

| dc.description.abstractOther | Brown rats, in numbers of 173 were trapped at randon in two habitats. The first habitat was characterized as rural, located at the Municipality of Seropedica, and the other as urban, localized at the Municipality of Nova Iguaçu, both in the homogeneous fluminense microrregion of Grande Rio, State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. These animals were grouped in accordance with their habitats, and within them in accordance with their age. Oocysts of Cryptosporidium were observed in feces of animals of both habitats and were characterized as C. muris by their morphometrical data and their location in the gastric glands of the host. The frequency of this parasite was observed in 29 (16.77%) of the animals independently of the habitats; being that, the major frequency was atributed to animals with body weight superior to 201 g, considered as adults. Eimeria nieschulzi and E. separata were pointed out in the feces of rats independently of the studied habitats. The major frequency was related to animals with body weight between 101 to 200 g, considered as young animals. Based on mixed infection caused by those species, the results suggested the inexistence of negative or competitive interations between both species, where the frequency was 47 (27.17%) superior when parasitism of both species of Eimeria was analized separately. The parasitism by Pneumocystis carinii was based on macroscopic lesions of the lungs. Of 112 animals studied, 20 (17.86%) were positive, and among the positive rats, the major frequency was observed in animals with body weight between 101 to 200 g, considered as young rats, and 10 (8.93%) of them were parasitized. The lesions of the lungs were only observed in rats of the urban habitat; so, this aspect characterized the disease caused by this parasite among rats as enzootic. The lesions of the lungs were well defined and were characterized macroscopically by enlargement of the organ with areas light gray to brown in color on their surface. Histologically, the lesions were characterized as chronic intersticial bronchopneumonia. | en |
