The caliphorid Cochliomyia macellaria (Fabricius) and the exotic blow-flies Chrysomya megacephala (Fabricius), Chrysomya albiceps (Wiedemann) and Chrysomya putoria (Wiedemann) are very important under epidemiological view, by their involvement as pathogen carriers. These flies are frequentely cited in international articles as producing primary or secundary myiasis in domestic animals. To verify the tolerance of the caliphorid flies under temperature conditions corresponding to human and domestic animals corporal temperature, in this work, we try to evaluate the performance of larval of these four species of caliphorid flies, under constant extreme thermal conditions (35o C and 38o C) and at 24o C of temperature. We further tested combined temperatures (35-24o C and 38-24o C of temperature) that could simulate the more favorable conditions to larvae, after it is spontaneous abandon, in animal wounds. The tests were made under laboratory conditions. First instar larvae of the caliphorid flies were placed in incubators under constant temperatures (24o C, 35o C and 38o C) and conbined temperatures (35-24o C and 38-24o C) (60 ± 10% RU and 14 h of fotophase). When combined temperatures were tested, third instar larvae, previous maintained at 35o and 38o C of temperature, after their spontaneous abandon of the substrate, were placed at incubators regulated ot 24o C of temperature until reach adults. Four replications containing 50 neolarvae in 100 g of horse meat were used in each treatment. The neolarvae abandon rate on the four studied species was over 80% in all treatment. The larval viability of C. macellaria, at 35o C and 38o C, on average, were greatest than 85%, under these temperatures; the average larval viability of C. megacephala was over 82% and over 70% to C. albiceps. C. putoria has shown the smaller larval viability under 38o C temperature conditions: only 55%, on the average. At 35o C, 70,5% of the immatures reached pupal stage. The pupal survival rate and emergence in Co macellaria, C. megacephala and C. albiceps were greatly affected by 38o C temperature. Only 7,4% of C. putoria pupae survived and only 4% adults emerged. Under combined temperature conditions, the performance of immature stages has a significantily increase. About 80% of the immatures of Co macellaria, 75% of C. megacephala, 65% of C. albiceps and 50% of C. putoria, on average, reached emergence. At 24o C of temperature, the larval and pupal viability of was over 80% and 90%, on the average, respectively, to C. macellaria and C. megacephala. The immatures of C. albiceps demonstrate larval and pupal viability over 80% on average. Both larval and pupal viability rates were smaller in C. putoria: 76,5% and 57,3%, on average, respectively. Over 75% of emergence rate at 24o C was observed to C. macellaria and C. megacephala at this temperature. About 66% of emergence on C. albiceps was observed. Only 39% of emergence was observed to C. putoria at 24o C of temperature. The results suggested the great tolerance of the larvae of the four species studied, when the combined temperatures were tested, wich amplify and suggests more discussions on the potencial of these flies as producers of myiasis, in Brazil.en
