Other | The aspidogastreans are a small group of trematodes characterized by having an adhesive disc with alveoli, rugae or suckers and they are considered fundamental in the studies on evolution of flukes and of Platyhelminthes as a whole. The current work aimed to study the taxonomy of Lobatostoma spp. parasitic in two species of pompanos, Trachinotus carolinus e T. goodei, from coast of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; reevaluate specimens of Lobatostoma deposited at Coleção Helmintológica do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz (CHIOC) and United States National Parasite Collection (USNPC); give a list of all aspidogastreans of the world with their respective hosts, besides to provide relevant information on the parasite-host relationship. Between June 2012 and March 2013 were necropsied 38 T. carolinus and 28 T. goodei off the Angra dos Reis (23°00’S; 44°10’W), Rio de Janeiro. Lobatostoma kemostoma was redescribed based on type material deposited at USNPC, voucher specimens at CHIOC and recently collected material. A partial sequence of 28S rDNA was provided and it was compared with other sequences available at GenBank database. A lectotype was designed for L. kemostoma from the type material. New taxonomic data of L. ringens e L. platense was given, including the second report of L. platense (T. carolinus is a new host record) and the first report of L. ringens in T. goodei. Among of deposited material, taxonomic inconsistencies were found in the specimens (USNPC 36394.02 e USNPC 083016/B7.30, B7.36), which were reevaluated, also were presented new data for the others studies specimens from collections. A total of 60 species in the world, representing 13 genera, within 4 families and 2 orders of aspidogastreans were presented in a checklist which was subdivided in a parasite-host and host-parasite lists, associated with 328 invertebrate or vertebrate host species, determined or not, worldwide distributed | eng |
