dc.description.abstract | O uso inadequado de fármacos e pesticidas destacam-se dentre as práticas acidentais potencialmente tóxicas para os gatos domésticos no Brasil. As injúrias tóxicas ocorrentes nestes animais relacionam-se em grande parte ao desconhecimento dos tutores sobre os potenciais tóxicos para a espécie. Entidades internacionais fornecem ativamente subsídios para geração de informações acerca das toxicidades em felinos, no Brasil estes dados são escassos, como reflexo da subnotificação aos centros de informação e assistência toxicológica e carências de estudos. Informes sobre o nível de conhecimento dos proprietários acerca das intoxicações para gatos também são insuficientes. Objetiva-se com este estudo caracterizar os principais agentes toxicantes para gatos domésticos nas diferentes regiões do Brasil, bem como descrever o nível de conhecimento dos tutores sobre a intoxicação em felinos. Foram distribuídos no período de novembro de 2017 a novembro de 2018 questionários sobre intoxicações em gatos domésticos, destinados a médicos veterinários de todas as regiões do Brasil, que atenderam gatos intoxicados. Os questionários, os quais eram compostos por 12 perguntas, foram aplicados através da plataforma eletrônica Survey Monkey e também de versões impressas. Durante o mesmo período de tempo, foram disponibilizados questionários aos tutores de gatos de todas as regiões do Brasil, exclusivamente através da plataforma Survey Monkey, tal formulário era composto por oito perguntas, sendo a finalidade verificar o nível de conhecimento dos proprietários sobre a ocorrência de intoxicações em felinos. Foram obtidos 543 (72,6%) formulários de respostas válidos, oriundos dos médicos veterinários. Os principais toxicantes previstos para gatos domésticos no Brasil foram os pesticidas e domissanitários, os quais foram responsáveis por 239 (44,0%) das ocorrências. O paracetamol foi o tóxico predominante dentre os medicamentos de uso humano, com frequência correspondente a 14,4% dos casos totais, assim como os organofosforados destacaram-se na categoria de pesticidas e domissanitários, culminando com 10,3% dos insultos tóxicos, já quanto às plantas e derivados de origem vegetal houve relevância do lírio, o qual intoxicou 3,9% de felinos e por fim, dentre os medicamentos de uso veterinário o tramadol foi sobrelevado, acarretando em 3,1% das intoxicações. Os resultados condensados foram enviados a 328/339 (96,75%) dos médicos veterinários respondentes a pesquisa. Através dos dados obtidos pôde-se caracterizar os principais tóxicos para gatos no Brasil e conscientizar médicos veterinários através do alerta enviado, o que poderá em suma reduzir a ocorrência e a fatalidade prevista para as principais intoxicações ocorrentes em gatos. 202 (72,9%) questionários disponibilizados a tutores de gatos foram considerados válidos, sendo verificado que estes em sua maioria (93,3%) possuem conhecimento básico parcial quanto às intoxicações ocorrentes na espécie, contudo denota-se deficiência quanto a entendimentos mais aprofundados sobre o tema, visto que apenas 62 proprietários (30,7%) se consideraram aptos a diferenciar o que é tóxico para gatos. 183 tutores (90,6%) receberam um folheto informativo sobre as intoxicações em felinos. dc.description.abstractOther | The inappropriate use of drugs and pesticides stand out among the potentially toxic incidental practices for domestic cats in Brazil. The toxic injuries that occur in these animals are related in large part to the ignorance of the tutors about the toxic potential for the species. International agencies actively provide information on toxicities in felines, in Brazil these data are scarce, as a reflection of underreporting to information centers and toxicological assistance and lack of studies. Reports of owners' level of knowledge about cat intoxications are also insufficient. The objective of this study is to characterize the main toxic agents for domestic cats in different regions of Brazil, as well as to describe the level of tutors' knowledge about cat intoxication. Questionnaires on intoxications in domestic cats were distributed from November 2017 to November 2018 to veterinarians from all regions of Brazil who treated into intoxicated cats. The questionnaires, which were composed of 12 questions, were applied through the electronic platform Survey Monkey and also of printed versions. During the same period of time, questionnaires were available to cat tutors from all regions of Brazil, exclusively through the Survey Monkey platform. The questionnaire was composed of eight questions, the purpose of which was to verify the knowledge level of the owners about the occurrence of intoxication in felines. A total of 543 (72.6%) valid response forms were obtained from veterinarians. The main toxicants predicted for domestic cats in Brazil were pesticides and household cleaning products, which accounted for 239 (44.0%) of the occurrences. Paracetamol was the predominant toxicant among the medicinal products for human use, corresponding to 14.4% of total cases, as well as organophosphates stood out in the category of pesticides and household cleaning products, culminating with 10.3% of toxic insults, already as regards plants and derivatives of plant origin, the lily was significant, which intoxicated 3.9% of felines and, finally, tramadol was elevated among veterinary medicinal products, resulting in 3.1% of intoxications. The condensed results were sent to 328/339 (96.75%) of the survey veterinarians. Through the data obtained it was possible to characterize the main toxicants for cats in Brazil and to raise awareness among veterinarians through the alert sent, which may in short reduce the occurrence and predicted fatality for the main intoxications occurring in cats. 202 (72.9%) questionnaires made available to cat tutors were considered valid, and it was verified that the majority of the questionnaires (93.3%) had partial basic knowledge regarding the poisoning occurring in the species. in depth, since only 62 owners (30.7%) considered themselves capable of differentiating what is toxic to cats. 183 tutors (90.6%) received an information leaflet on feline intoxications. Thus, due to the problematic that includes poisoning, the promotion of alerts should be recommended, as conducted in this study, so that the number of cats intoxicated by disinformation of their respective responsible is less. | eng |
