Research with a population sample composed of adult individuals with ASD has received little attention in the literature and little investment in the Brazilian context. In order to fill this gap, two interdependent studies were carried out through this research. The first study aimed to investigate ASD screening instruments in adults, published in English and Portuguese. The methodological design adopted was a systematic review of the literature, carried out from January to May 2021 and proposed to analyze publications from the last fifteen years in the databases PubMed/MedLine, JSTOR, Science Direct, SCIelo, VHL-Psi and Biblioteca Digital of Theses and Dissertations. Adopting PRISMA criteria, a total of thirteen empirical studies on the development and adaptation of ASD screening instruments in adults were included. The results indicated two instruments that present evidence of validity for use with the Brazilian population and eleven published in foreign countries. Of these, the Ritvo Autism Asperger Diagnostic Scale-Revised (RAADS-R) is the scale recommended by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) for diagnosing ASD in adults, in addition to being the scale most translated into different languages. In this way, the second study proposed to carry out the translation and cross-cultural adaptation of the RAADS-R into Brazilian Portuguese. The process involved six steps described in the methodological path. The results indicate that the RAADS-R-BR preserved the semantic equivalence between the terms, maintained the same dimensions proposed by the original author of the instrument, was satisfactorily understood by the target audience, its items are adjusted to the diagnostic criteria of the DSM-5-TR and is ready to be subjected to validity evidence studies.en
