The present work had as objectives the taxonomic study of the monogeneans, and the ecological approach to the temporary dynamics of the parasite infrapopulations and infracommunities, considering as models the numeric values (abundance) and the biomass of the metazoan parasites of Geophagus brasiliensis, from the Guandu River, and of Trichiurus lepturus, from off the coastal zone of the State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Between April 2006 and June 2007, 200 specimens of G. brasiliensis and 120 specimens of T. lepturus were collected. Four seasonal collections were accomplished for each fish species. The fish were necropsied and the collected parasites were quantified, and processed for the taxonomic determination and to calculate the biomass. Population and community descriptors from metazoan parasites were acessed in each seasonal sample and compared to verify possible seasonal changes For the study of the metazoan parasites population and community descriptors were used, calculated for each one of the seasonal samplesand used for tested possible seasonal changes. Four monogenean species were collected in T. lepturus, three of them, Encotyllabe sp., Octoplectanocotyla sp. and Pseudempleurosoma sp. are new species; and Neobenedenia melleni, recorded for the first time in a wild host in Brazil. A new species of Sciadicleithrum (Dactylogyridae) was described in G. brasiliensis. Temporal variations in the infrapopulations and infracommunities were detected in G. brasiliensis and in T. lepturus. In G. brasiliensis, when considered the numeric values and of the biomass, there were differences in the patterns that generated temporal variation in the communities of metazoan parasites. Possible influences of the environmental seasonal changes and hosts biology on the structure of the community of metazoan parasites, were discussed.en
