| dc.description.abstract | A estreita convivência entre humanos e animais de companhia aumenta a demanda por terapias seguras contra ectoparasitos de importância médico-veterinária, como Ctenocephalides felis felis e Rhipicephalus linnaei. O controle convencional, baseado em moléculas sintéticas, frequentemente associa-se a efeitos tóxicos e impacto ambiental deletério, incentivando a busca por alternativas naturais. Neste contexto, o presente estudo avaliou a eficácia in vivo de uma formulação em spray contendo eugenol e carvacrol, biocompostos com atividade sinérgica comprovada in vitro, para o controle desses ectoparasitos em cães da raça Beagle. Foram utilizados 16 cães Beagle do plantel do LQEPV. Todos os animais selecionados apresentavam infestações basais homogêneas e adequadas (>25% de recuperação), sem diferenças estatísticas entre si. Após esta verificação, os cães foram ranqueados e distribuídos nos grupos tratado (GT) e controle (GC). O grupo tratado recebeu a formulação no dia 0, com a eficácia avaliada aos +2, +7 e +14 dias, enquanto o controle permaneceu sem tratamento. A carga parasitária foi avaliada pela contagem dos ectoparasitos retidos após a infestação artificial de cada animal com 25 casais de R. linnaei e 50 casais de C. felis felis. Os valores de média geométrica no grupo controle (GC) mantiveram-se estáveis ao longo do período experimental, registrando 35,8 (D+2), 33,8 (D+7) e 35,0 (D+14) para R. linnaei, e 52,8 (D+2), 65,8 (D+7) e 80,8 (D+14) para C. felis felis. Em contraste, o grupo tratado (GT) apresentou uma redução significativa, com médias de 1,39 (D+2), 15,76 (D+7) e 32,64 (D+14) para R. linnaei, e 0,54 (D+2), 24,97 (D+7) e 50,09 (D+14) para C. felis felis. Com base nesses resultados, a eficácia acaricida da formulação foi calculada em 96,11% (D+2), 53,32% (D+7) e 6,77% (D+14) para R. linnaei, enquanto a eficácia pulgicida atingiu 98,97% (D+2), 62,05% (D+7) e 38,02% (D+14) para C. felis felis. O perfil de segurança mostrou-se satisfatório, uma vez que não foram observados sinais de toxicidade ou alterações hematológicas e bioquímicas significativas. | dc.description.abstractOther | The close coexistence between humans and companion animals increases the demand for safe therapies against ectoparasites of medical and veterinary importance, such as Ctenocephalides felis felis and Rhipicephalus linnaei. Conventional control, based on synthetic molecules, is often associated with toxic effects and deleterious environmental impact, encouraging the search for natural alternatives. In this context, the present study evaluated the in vivo efficacy of a spray formulation containing eugenol and carvacrol, biocompounds with proven synergistic activity in vitro, for the control of these ectoparasites in Beagle dogs. Sixteen Beagle dogs from the LQEPV colony were used. All selected animals presented homogeneous and adequate basal infestations (>25% recovery), with no statistical differences between them. After this verification, the dogs were ranked and distributed into treated (TG) and control (CG) groups. The treated group received the formulation on day 0, with efficacy evaluated on days +2, +7, and +14, while the control group remained untreated. Parasite load was assessed by counting retained ectoparasites after artificial infestation of each animal with 25 pairs of R. linnaei and 50 pairs of C. felis felis. Geometric mean values in the control group (CG) remained stable throughout the experimental period, recording 35.8 (D+2), 33.8 (D+7), and 35.0 (D+14) for R. linnaei, and 52.8 (D+2), 65.8 (D+7), and 80.8 (D+14) for C. felis felis. In contrast, the treated group (TG) showed a significant reduction, with means of 1.39 (D+2), 15.76 (D+7), and 32.64 (D+14) for R. linnaei, and 0.54 (D+2), 24.97 (D+7), and 50.09 (D+14) for C. felis felis. Based on these results, the acaricidal efficacy of the formulation was calculated as 96.11% (D+2), 53.32% (D+7), and 6.77% (D+14) for R. linnaei, while the fleacidal efficacy reached 98.97% (D+2), 62.05% (D+7), and 38.02% (D+14) for C. felis felis. The safety profile was satisfactory, as no signs of toxicity or significant hematological and biochemical alterations were observed.
