| pt_BR |

| dc.description.abstractOther | Subulina octona and Leptinaria unilamellata are intermediate hosts of Paratanaisia bragai. The objective was to describe the effects of experimental infection by P. bragai in S. octona on reproductive aspects; carbohydrate metabolism; proteins and nitrogenous products metabolism and calcium metabolism. Four groups were formed with infected snails and 4 groups with control snails. Every 10 days, the selected parameters were evaluated. Comparing the infected molluscs with the control, was observed a reduction in the reproductive parameters analyzed; increase in glucose content; oscillatory pattern in glycogen content and LDH activity, significant and progressive reductions in organic acid concentrations, except lactic acid; hyperproteinemia; increase in urea concentration; uric acid concentration and ALT activity, lower percentage growth and lower amount of calcium in the shell and changes in tissues analyzed through histology and histochemistry. Regarding reproduction, indirect partial parasitic castration was observed by inhibiting gametogenesis or the viability of female gametes. In carbohydrate metabolism, it was seen that the infected molluscs did not significantly use the glycidic reserves despite the increase in glycemia, indicating that the metabolism changed to a predominantly anaerobic pattern. Histological analyzes show intense degradation of the observed tissues (gonadal, digestive gland and cephalopedal mass) causing extravasation of proteins into the hemolymph, increase in ALT and AST and alteration of the metabolic pathway, which uses proteins as an energy substrate. In an attempt to compensate for pH changes, calcium is mobilized from the shell and made available to maintain homeostasis. | en |
