dc.description.abstractNa segunda metade do século XX a população urbana triplicou globalmente e, agora, pela primeira vez na história mais pessoas vivem nas áreas urbanas do que nas rurais. Espera-se que até 2050 dois terços da população mundial esteja vivendo em áreas urbanas. Nesse contexto se redefine o conceito de cidade não mais como um componente de divisão entre mundo urbano e rural, mas como uma forma integrada de vida social. Nessa nova dinâmica de acelerada urbanização, a agricultura urbana passa a se tornar um componente natural da concepção de cidade que é vista como elemento central na implementação e no desenvolvimento de sistemas alimentares urbanos que possam responder aos próximos desafios de caráter social, climático e de segurança alimentar. A nossa tese analisa a evolução do sistema agroalimentar mundial, em especial o contexto das críticas crescentes à sua organização em forma predominante de cadeias longas – que gastam recursos e afastam os pontos de produção e de consumo. A agricultura urbana, nas suas variadas formas, pode ser vista com uma continuação e uma radicalização dessa crítica. Nessa tese, analisamos as distintas formas de agricultura urbana, dando destaque para os novos tipos de investimentos que apontam para uma redefinição histórica das relações entre cidade e campo.por

dc.description.abstractOtherIn the second half of the 20th century the urban population tripled globally and now for the first time in history more people live in urban areas than in rural areas. By 2050, two-thirds of the world's population is expected to be living in urban areas. In this context, the concept of city is redefined no longer as a component of division between urban and rural world, but as an integrated form of social life. In this new dynamic of accelerated urbanization, urban agriculture becomes a natural component of city design that is seen as a central element in the implementation and development of urban food systems that can respond to the next challenges of social, climatic and food security. Our thesis analyzes the evolution of the global agri-food system, in particular the context of growing criticism of its organization in the predominant form of long chains – which spend resources and move away from production and consumption points. Urban agriculture, in its various forms, can be seen with a continuation and radicalization of this criticism. In this thesis, we analyze the different forms of urban agriculture, highlighting the new types of investments that point to a historical redefinition of the relations between city and countryside.eng
