Abstract:	A tese tem como tema central a Cena Mangue, criada em Recife, no início da década de 1990. A pesquisa percorre desde o final da década de 1980, época embrionária da Cena, até a influência do Mangue nos dias atuais. Neste percurso, os principais temas investigados são a relação da Cena Mangue com a imprensa e sua transmutação em Movimento Manguebeat; os campos de produção da Cena além da música, como o cinema e a moda; a Cena como confluência de fluxos locais e globais; os significados da identidade mangueboy; a relação do Mangue com a região Nordeste e com a identidade nacional.
Abstract:	The thesis is about the Cena Mangue [Mangue Scene], created in Recife in the beginning of the 1990’s. The research developed for the thesis covers the period from the 80’s, the embryonic phase of the Scene, through the Scene’s cultural influence in current days. Accordingly, the main subjects studied in this thesis are: the relation between the Mangue Scene and the press, and the issue of its transmutation into the Manguebeat Movement; the fields covered by the Scene other than music, such as movies and fashion; the Scene as a confluence of the local and global flows; the meanings of the mangueboy identity; the relationship of Mangue with the Northeast region of Brazil, and with Brazilian national identity.
