| pt_BR |

| dc.description.abstractOther | Modern agriculture has been trying to conciliate development with more rational use of natural resources. Different soil management systems can cause modification on soil quality. Hence, methodologies to detect these differences are needed. Soil quality indexes are tools with great potential to evaluate these impacts. This work was set up to perform a follow up of variations on some of these soil indexes in two different locations, during a whole year: the Experimental Station of Pesagro-Rio, in Avelar District, Municipality of Paty of Alferes, Rio de Janeiro (RJ), Brazil and in Santa Mônica Farm of Embrapa Dairy Cattle Center, Municipality of Valença (RJ). The following soil covers were present in Avelar: coffee, with three row spacings and intercropped with pigeon pea (Cajanus cajan) and one treatment without the legume; short-cycle crops (bell peppers and snap beans) and an area of forest. In Santa Mônica the soil covers were: two cultivars of coffee (Red cCatuaí and Yellow Icatu) with and without green manure (Crotalaria spectabilis) as well as areas under pasture and forest. Soil samplings were conducted for each season. The variables with larger discriminatory power, in Avelar, were Ca:Mg ratio, microbial biomass, pH, contents of Ca+Mg, K andNa, and microbial quotient. Potencial acidity and the higher levels of pH, Ca:Mg ratio, content of Ca+Mg, P, K, and Na were correlated, respectively, to the forest and short-cycle crops. Soil fertility from the coffee area showed an intermediate level between short-cycle crops and forest. Summer was the most favorable season for macrofauna, when the best indexes of density and richness were obtained. Oligochaeta was closely associated to coffee cropped with pigeon pea; coffee without pigeonpea was correlated with Formicidae and forest showed large presence of saprophagous macrofauna. Short-cycle crops showed higher correlation with microbial biomass and microbial quotient, in spite of its smallest density and richness. Potencial acidity correlated to the forest and pasture in Santa Mônica, while pH, Ca+Mg content, P, and K were correlated to coffee area. Soil fertility under coffee was higher than under pasture and forest. Basal respiration and the metabolic quotient were correlated to forest in all seasons. Microbial biomass and microbial quotient presented larger availability in Catuaí with green manure. The variables pH, potencial acidity, content of Ca+Mg and K, metabolic quotient and microbial biomass were the most discriminatory. Autumn was the most favorable seasonto soil macrofauna, density and richness was higher in forest and lower in pasture. Orthoptera and Blattodea were associated to the treatments that received green manure and Oligochaeta and Chilopoda to the forest. The correspondence, in spite of the variability, shows that the presence of organic matter increases population and occurrence of saprophagous and predator groups. Potencial acidity, %N, %C and macrofauna were correlated to the forest. Short-cycle crops presented levels of macrofauna inverse to microbial biomass and microbial quotient, while pasture presented the same response to the forest. Saprophagous macrofauna (Blattodea) and primary consumers (Orthoptera) correlated to green manure. | en |
